Keeping Strathmore beautiful

It isn't often that a community has the opportunity to really display the best they have to offer, but in the next couple weeks that's exactly what Strathmore will be doing.
On July 22 the Communities In Bloom judging will take place, and a group of people will be touring Strathmore to see the many beautiful and functional parks Strathmore has.
They will also learn a little about our rich history and will better understand the magnitude of work that goes into making our town the place it is today.
Between the recently installed banners on Lakeside Boulevard and the many impressive front yards, Strathmore is sure to impress the judges.
Then, the week after, people will start to arrive from across the continent to compete in and enjoy the Heritage Days festivities.
From the first performance of the day on the EnCana stage to the last hoof to pass the finish line in the evening's chuckwagon races, the five days of Heritage Days always show residents and guests a great time. It also keeps many guests coming back year after year.
Both these events showcase Strathmore at its best, and to truly do that the whole community needs to get behind both causes.
Countless people volunteer during the year to beautify the parks and green spaces in Strathmore, making the tour for Communities In Bloom that much better. Many of the same people, and many more, join together to make Heritage Days the success it is each year by volunteering their time and efforts throughout the weekend.
But they can't do it all. In the next couple days, be sure to pick up that piece of garbage on the sidewalk or on your lawn. Try to tidy up your yard just a little more, or maybe take care of the few weeds that have poked through thanks to our wet weather.
Or, try your hand at helping people while they are visiting our town. Although Strathmore isn't huge, it is still possible to get lost or confused while driving around here. Try to be courteous to those who might not know where they are going, and offer a bit of advice for those who don't know where to shop, eat or just relax while visiting our town.
Strathmore is a beautiful town, with polite and generous residents. Everyone who lives here knows that, and displays it every day with the many things they do to lend their neighbours a hand.
To ensure the rest of the world understands that as well, make the extra effort in the next few weeks. With a little thought and consideration, we can guarantee that no one leaves Strathmore with anything but good things to say this summer.
