A little help?

Posted 6 months ago

Recently a few shortfalls in the Standard’s office have been identified. We are hoping readers can lend us a bit of a hand while we work them out.

As it stands, the Strathmore Standard is yet to employ anyone who can read minds. This is not for a lack of effort made by present staff, but we just can’t seem to figure the trick out.

The reason we’re looking for someone with those talents? What we don’t know, we can’t print, and outside of reading minds, we don’t know what we’re not told.

This applies in all different types of stories and photo opportunities. Chances are if there is something you believe is newsworthy, you should call us. Please make that phone call with the laws of physics in mind (see next issue) and please give us a reasonable amount of notice when calling about an event. Without that phone call, chances are we will not be there. After that phone call, we will do whatever we can to ensure your event, accomplishment, issue or concern is done justice.

The small town newspaper is a very important part of the community. It doesn’t just inform residents about upcoming events, it also celebrates, mourns and explores life with the community. At the Strathmore Standard we do our best to represent Strathmore and Wheatland County.

Again, with the mind reading, it would be so much easier to fully cover events if we just could pick people’s thoughts right out of the air and print them. Until we can create that technology, a phone call should suffice if you feel your opinion in a matter may be missed.

In addition to lacking psychic ability, we are also limited by the laws of physics. A request has been made to have those changed, but until then please understand we can only be in one place at one time. We can be doing 10 things while there, but we can’t seem to clone our staff just yet.

While we work on that, we are hoping for another helping hand. There are often hundreds of photos taken at newsworthy events. Please have one of the photographers send in or drop of a copy of one of those photos, along with whatever information you feel the community needs to know. Typically the five ‘W’s are sufficient (who, what, where, when, why and how).

With that, we will try to print your photo. Just because we are limited by physical constraints doesn’t mean your event was not worth our time.

Your understanding and consideration in these matters is greatly appreciated. Until we can have these few final kinks in our system worked out, we really are thankful you’re willing to help out with those phone calls, e-mails and trips to our office.
