Rodeo fans were treated to another great weekend of competition with the 49th annual Rockyford Ag Society and Lions Club Rodeo.

After kicking off the event on July 28 with the Rancher?s Rodeo, the Foothills Cowboy Association (FCA) contestants hit the arena on July 29 and 30.

Travis Reay from Mayerthorpe, Alta. showed he can handle both sides of the arena as he won the Theresa Burke Memorial All-round Trophy, which is awarded to a contestant who has a qualifying ride in a timed and rough stock event. Reay won the saddle bronc event with his 75-point ride on American Trip. He also placed in the steer wrestling when he pinned his steer in 5.1 seconds, which was good enough to take fourth place.

As for the rest of the events, Australian cowboy Ben Walsh finished second in the saddle bronc behind Reay with 73 points. Wayne Powell was right behind him in third with 72 points. Strathmore?s Mike Lievers finished fourth with his 59 point ride.

The broncs had the best of most of the cowboys during the bareback event as there were only two qualified rides. Brent Foster came out on top with 72 points. Tynel Debnam, who calls Strathmore home, was second with a 65-point ride.

The bull riding was another tough event on the cowboys as the bulls showed many of them who was the boss. Miles Pennington, however, had a good ride and scored 76 points to win the event. Second place was won by Bradley Walker who had a 72-point ride, third went to Beau Brooks and his 70 points and fourth place was won by Pascal Bissonnette, another Strathmore-based cowboy.

Jerry Stojan from Sexsmith put his steer on the ground in 4.4 seconds to win the steer wrestling. Denver Hoff was close behind in second place with a time of 4.7 seconds and two cowboys tied for third with Ruby Nieborg and Chris Manton both doing the job in 4.9 seconds.

Hard running calves made the job a difficult one for the cowboys in the tie-down roping but they managed to get it done.

Jeff Havens wrapped up his calf the quickest with a time of 11.2 seconds to win the event. Sammy Hamilton took second place with a time of 11.4 seconds and right on his heels were Blew Noyes 11.5 seconds and Owen Syverson from Bassano with a time of 11.6 seconds.

The team roping was won by Wade Galloway and Dallas McDougall with a time of 5.2 seconds. In second place was Kelly Hiltz and Roddy McNinch and third was won by Kelly Strandquist and Slade Bowers.

Ladies barrel racing was hotly contested at the Rockyford Rodeo. Skyler Mantler emerged as the winner of the event as she and her horse ran the cloverleaf in 16.41 seconds. Stacy Lunde took second place with her time of 16.68 seconds, third went to Abbi Sullivan, who had a time of 16.82 seconds, and Nina Flundra was fourth with her time of 16.84.

Teenage girls also had their shot at the barrels during the junior barrel racing. Chelsey Carlier won the event in 16.39 seconds. Second place was won by Shelby Noval with a time of 16.78 seconds, third went to Kenna Wilkinson, who had a time of 16.9 and Carla Olstad was fourth in a time of 16.96 seconds.

The boys steer riding was won by Jerett Nash, who scored 74 points. Connor Reinhart was right behind him with a 73-point ride for second place and Dakota Buttar and Tommy Clarke tied for third with 72 points.
