The Wheatland Hawks AA midget team improved to 9-6-3 on the season, after sweeping a home-and-home series with the Medicine Hat Moose Warriors this past weekend.

The Hawks defeated the Warriors 5-3 on Nov. 26 in Hussar, before posting a 4-3 victory in Medicine Hat the following day.

On Friday night, the Hawks trailed 2-0 just 43 seconds into the second period, before Ryan McKenzie scored a power play marker at the 3:40 mark, from Dan Miller and Jared Stang.

The Hawks then scored a pair of goals just 1:41 apart, the first one at the 8:31 mark, to take the lead. Ryan Corbiell took a feed from Keenan Desmet and Carl Knudsen for the first goal, before Thomas Sharuga took a feed from Stang and Trevor Scott.

The Warriors evened the game at 3-3 at the 8:46 mark of the third period, before Taylor Colberg scored a pair of goals, including the game winner just 53 seconds later, to restore the Hawk?s lead, with the assists going to Desmet and Knudsen.

Colberg iced the game with just 1:02 left, when he took a feed from Desmet.

The following day in Medicine Hat, the Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the first period.

Shadoe Stoodley took a feed from Todd Bassen just 5:26 into the game, before Jerad Meyer converted a Bassen pass at the 8:22 mark.

Medicine Hat scored three unanswered goals, with the first one at the 14:30 mark of the first period, before notching two goals late in the second period.

However, at the 5:03 mark of the third period, Stoodley scored his second of the game, with the lone assist going to Corbiell.

The Hawks iced the game at the 18:49 mark, when Knudsen took a feed from Desmet.

The Hawks will now travel to Red Deer on Dec. 3 to take on the Elks at 8:30 p.m. in their lone weekend game.

Warriors win

The Wheatland Warriors AA bantam team improved to 5-5-3 on the season, with an impressive 6-4 win over Medicine Hat on Nov. 28 at the Strathmore Family Centre.

The Warriors took the lead 5:49 into the first period, when Quinn Sproule converted a pass from Todd Callaghan and Steven Eidsness, while on the power play. Medicine Hat evened the score at the 7:48 mark, before the Warriors restored their lead. Callaghan took a feed from Lucas Ford and Sproule at the 13:40 mark to take a 2-1 lead, going into the second period.

Just 49 seconds into the middle period, Ethan Wilson took a feed from Caylen Walls to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead, before the ?Hat scored at the 2:08 mark. The Warriors restored their two-goal lead at the 5:01 mark of the period, when Ford took a pass from Sean Swaren. Medicine Hat trimmed their deficit to one, when they scored at the 18:38 mark of the period.

In the third period, Christina Hodgson scored off of a pass from Callaghan and Ford, to give the Warriors a 5-3 lead.

Eidsness iced the game at the 7:01 mark of the third period, when he converted a feed from Sproule and Callaghan. Medicine Hat scored with just 33 second left, ending the game 6-4. Wheatland will now travel to Brooks on Dec. 3 (7:30 p.m.), before traveling to Okotoks on Dec. 5 to tangle with the Oilers. Game time is 6 p.m.

Tough weekend

The Wheatland Braves AA peewee team lost a pair of games this past weekend, dropping their record to 6-9-1 on the season.

The Braves lost 5-3 in Red Deer and 5-3 at home to the Medicine Hat Royals.

In Red Deer, Brandon Rommens scored twice and Spencer Samuel scored once to lead the way for the Braves. Dylan Schellenberg and Tyler Stahl each added an assist. Against the Royals, Keith Csizmadia and Lane Dunbar each scored once, while Samuel, Jordan Eddy, Jordan Evans and Kevan Mikkelsen each added an assist.
