Bringing back Not Your grandfather's AGM
The Strathmore and District Chamber of Commerce will be bringing back one of their most successful events from 2017, Not Your Grandfather's AGM.
The event, which is a fun and new way of approaching an annual general meeting, will be held at the Strathmore Civic Centre on March 26 at 5 p.m.
“We just think it's going to be fun. I'm actually really excited,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lawrence Carriere.
A highlight of the event will be A Taste of Strathmore & Wheatland County, a food tasting event featuring 10 local restaurants. The event will also feature a beer tasting event courtesy local malt brewery Origin Malting and Brewing.
“They are going to be coming in with different samples of their beer and we are going to be selling samples for those beers for $2 per sample,” said Carriere. “It's not a big sample that you are getting you're only getting a four ounce sample, but like I said it's only $2,” he said.
“We're also doing what we are calling 'A Taste of Strathmore and Wheatland County' where we have invited 10 different restaurants from in town here and also Wheatland County,” he said. “We tried a couple of other places like in Rosebud some people had suggested other restaurants too, but because of their availability they were unable to join us.”
The cost of the ticket gets participants a free beer sampling and free food sample. Many of the restaurants will also be offering samples during the AGM.
“If you want to get more we are selling extra tickets, $2 for beer tickets and $3 for extra food samples,” Carriere explained. There will also be a presentation by guests Origin Malting and Brewing, outlining their history in the region.
The traditional annual general meeting will follow.
“We will have the regular AGM information and voting afterwards. After everyone has the chance to eat and mingle,” said Carriere.
He noted that there are positions that are open on the board. And member can submit their names for nomination during the AGM.
“That will be something that people can do right at the AGM. That's when our members will be there and we ask that our members be there as their votes are important. We have a few positions that we've had to fill,” said Carriere.
Last year's annual general meeting was so successful that the event sold out of tickets.
“I've been in contact with all of the restaurants and everybody was very excited to come down and hang out and I just think its going to be a really cool thing, and we're really looking forward to it,” said Carriere, who explained that some of the participating restaurants have even asked if they could purchase sample tickets so they could sample some of the food offered in A Taste of Strathmore and Wheatland County.
Tickets to Not Your Grandfather's AGM are $20 for chamber of commerce members and $25 for non-members. More information can also be found at the Strathmore and District Chamber of Commerce's website at strathmoredistrictchamber.com.
