Strathmore Lions host 32nd annual ladies and gentleman auction
Next month the Strathmore Lions Club will he hosting their 32nd annual Ladies and Gentlemen Auction.
The Strathmore Lions Club has been serving the local community since 1938. Funds raised for their numerous community projects stay in the community and support local projects and causes like the Strathmore Lions Splash Park, the Aquatic Centre, the Festival of Lights, and the Strathmore Lions Regional Outdoor Rink.
“The Lions is a huge service organization,” explained Strathmore Lion Dan Specht.
“We started 32 years ago with an auction to raise money for community functions. The Lions is an organization that supports the community,” he said noting the many public works in town. “We are involved in many things and this is one of our major fundraisers in the year,” said Specht.
The live auction has been upgraded this year and will be more fun than in previous years.
“We've made some more changes this year, changes in the menu and changes in the auction just to make it more interesting for people. Tickets are $35 a ticket, but with a donation people get free tickets,” he said.
Monetary donations to the Strathmore Lions Club will be accepted.
“All money that is raised, must be spent in the community,” said Specht.
One notable community project supported by the Lions Club International is an international exchange program for students. The Youth Camp and Exchange Program gives thousands of young people the chance to understand and learn hands-on about different cultures.
“This year we sent five students on exchange to other countries. This is something through the Lions organization that goes on every year. We sponsor those kids to go other places, there are students from other countries that come here,” he said.
The auction and supper will be held on April 7 at the Strathmore Civic Centre. This year will be different from previous years in that they will have a wider selection of foods on the menu with salads, fruit and beef, chicken and vegetarian choices.
There will also be a wider selection of beer including products from Origin Malting and Brewing.
Come out and have fun, socialize, have dinner and bid on some of the live auction items.
This year will have a streamlined live auction with pre-printed bid cards.
The deadline for receiving auction items is March 30.
Tickets are available from local canvassers, and also at Pro-Water Systems, Assist Business Centre, or by contacting Auction Canvasser Co-ordinator Dan Specht.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. with cocktails starting at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6 pm.
