After sorting through fabric, ironing and cutting out pieces and then finally sewing 256 blocks of fabric together, the Wheatland Quilters created a Half Log Cabin Quilt which was then raffled off to raise funds towards improving the Quonset on the Agricultural Society Grounds where the group holds their monthly meetings.
"The Wheatland Quilters would like to thank everyone who donated fabric and purchased raffle tickets," said Wendy Nielsen, co-founder of the Wheatland Quilters in a letter to the Strathmore Standard. "In the future we will be using the fabric to make quilts and donate to organizations in our area."
After long hours of quilting, the masterpiece created by Wheatland member Donna Johnson was awarded to Karen Thompson of Carseland/Mossleigh who was the lucky winner of the quilt raffle.
A total of $2,500 was raised by the quilters to put towards utilities and other upgrades for the meeting space on the Agricultural Society grounds.
The Wheatland Quilters are also now a subgroup of Victorias Quilts Canada and would like the community to know that if someone is suffereing from canacer a quilt can be sent from the group to ease the pain.
