For Kati -Millar Ward all of the hard work involved with getting her first novel published has finally paid of as 'Shifted' - a supernatural romance tale has been released by Xlibris Publishing Group and is the first novel in a three part series for the blossoming
Strathmore author.
"It was a long journey," said Ward. "Writing the book was probably the easiest part out of any of it but the whole editing process is a lot of work but when it finally came out it was a really great feeling."
What began as a joke between Ward and some of her girlfriends is now a reality as her book has been published and writing for the second novel is about to get underway.
"I said it as a joke to one of my girlfriends that I was going to write a book and I just got a lot of support and people said I really should write a book, and so I did," said Ward. "The encouragement and support was the most important and most helpful part about the process. Without them this might have just been a pipe-dream."
Ward admits that at times the creation of her first novel was hard, having to deal with editing and rewriting issues and at times a lack of motivation, but now that the finished product is out she couldn't be happier.
"Going back and forth with the editing process was the hardest part and keeping myself going and with this being my first book you don't really know where it's going to go or how it's going to turn out so you stop and wonder if it's worth it," said Ward. "In the end it really comes back and shows you that there was a good reason that you fought for it and worked as hard as you
did."
The novel features a few different genres but as Ward describes, the novel is geared towards women.
"Shifted is a supernatural romance, so it's kind of a girly book," said Ward. "There's a lot of action in it and suspense but mainly it's a supernatural romance about a group of shifters and the troubles that they have to go through to fight for
life and love at the same time."
With the first book being out, Ward is working hard to get the sequel out to keep her momentum going, but having her first novel under her belt she predicts
that things will be easier the second time around.
"Now I kind of know what to expect about the whole writing process," said Ward. "There are many things that I learned and realized about myself. I didn't think I would ever be able to do it but as long as you have the ideas in your head there are numerous people out there who will help you make it the
perfect story."
Ward admits that perhaps she is her own toughest critic but is quite pleased with the finish product.
"I think the book turned out amazing," said Ward. "It looks great and is eye-catching and though I may be a bit biased I think it turned out fabulous."
Ward will be working with her publication company to start promoting the new novel but will then shift focus towards completing the final two novels in the series to maintain the momentum garnered by her first publication.
