It's time to oil those gloves and practice that swing, because Standard Sports Days are just days away.

Standard's annual, non-competitive slo pitch tournament will be held on June 22-23, and is open to all, regardless of age, fitness level or sports inclination.

"We really don't want those (competitive) teams," laughed Gates Agencies Owner, Brett Gates.

"This is the annual town get-together."

His company is coordinating the event along with the Standard Lions Club.

The activities surrounding the ball games are designed to appeal to everyone, with something for everyone, Gates said.

Opening night's open mike will feature a slice of local-born talent, with Standard-grown, country music singer and songwriter, Drew Gregory.

Saturday morning's festivities begin bright and early with breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by a parade and all-day entertainment.

For the children, there will be face painting and games, as well as a petting zoo, which is new this year.

There will even be some fun, simulated shoot and fish activities for the adults, in addition to a golf ball drop.

Sports Days participants can end the day with a roast beef supper, silent auction and dance, with more entertainment by Gregory.

"There are always little changes, but nothing major," said Gates.

There are costs associated with some of the activities, such as the breakfast and dinner, but most are free.

The main events will take place at the sports grounds and community hall. For more information, call Gates Agencies at 403-644-3757.
